Lieutenant General Mir Mushfiqur Rahman, BSP, SUP, ndc, psc
Lieutenant General Mir Mushfiqur Rahman was commissioned in the Corps of Infantry on 21 June 1991 with 24th BMA Long Course.
Lieutenant General Mushfiq’s previous command assignments in active operational area (Chattogram Hill Tracts) include commanding officer (CO) of an infantry battalion at Naniarchar (Rangamati), Commander of 203 Infantry Brigade at Khagrachari and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 24 Infantry Division. In 2015-16, he successfully led a Bangladeshi contingent (BANBAT) in one of the most dangerous and riskiest UN peace enforcement mission in Gao (Mali) under the Blue Helmets (MINUSMA). As an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) expert, he commanded troops under Operation Kuwait Resconstruction-1 (OKP) in 1998-99 and actively participated in EOD clearance and demining operations in Kuwait.
The General served both as instructor and directing staff at School of Infantry and Tactics (Sylhet) and Defence Services Command and Staff College (Mirpur). He also performed as the Commandant of Army War Game Centre (Dhaka).
His other key appointments include ADC to GOC and GSO-3 (Operations) of an Infantry Division, GSO-2 (Plans) at Military Operations Directorate (AHQ), GSO-1 (Operations) of an Infantry Division, Commander 44 Infantry Brigade (Cumilla), Director of Inspection and Technical Development Directorate (DITD) and Director of Military Operations (DMO) at the Army Headquarters.
Lieutenant General Mushfiq is a graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Mirpur. He is also a graduate of Command and General Staff College (CGSC), Fort Leavenworth, USA. He completed his National Defence Course from NDC, Mirpur. His other important training courses include Company Commanders’ Course in Malaysia, Overseas Directing Staff Course at Joint Services Command and Staff College in Shrivenham (UK), Defence Attache Orientation Course at Sri Lanka and Contingent Commanders’ Course in Nepal. He holds two Masters Degrees in Defence Studies and Security and Development. The General is currently pursuing his PhD on contemporary warfare.
He was promoted as Major General on 16 January 2023 and was assigned as the Director General of DGDP (Directorate General of Defence Purchase). He also served as the Military Secretary (MS) at the AHQ. He joined as GOC 24 Infantry Division (Chattogram) on 21 October 2024. He was promoted as Lieutenant General on 22 February 2026 and assumed office as the Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division on the same day. He is also the ex-officio chairman of the Bangladesh National Authority of Chemical Weapons Convention (BNACWC).
